Phorid flies are another type of small fly found in residential and commercial areas/buildings. Because of the ability to penetrate into the soil and locate breeding sites, these flies are even cold as “coffin flies”. Phorid Flies lay eggs on or beside moist decay materials and it requires 14-37 days for an egg to reach the adult stage. The high population of phorid flies indicates unsanitary conditions since they are mainly breeding in moist, decaying and decomposing materials, garbage, drainages, dung, faeces etc.
